Club One Boys COACHES

Below is some of our coaching staff that will be working with our boys. Please take a minute to get to know them - what drives them to coach this awesome game of volleyball, as well as what they enjoy outside of the gym :o)  We are fortunate to have such a diverse and dedicated group of people on the Club One staff!

Bri Keller-Galley

Bri is an Arizona native and an alumni of Corona del Sol HS and Arizona State University. She received her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business . Bri grew up in a volleyball family, starting to play herself at age 7, and fell in love with the sport. She began playing at Club One during our inaugural season in 2010 and joined our coaching staff the following year.

Bri also coaches in our One Beach program, helping run our sand tournaments, and has been an assistant coach for boys program over the years. And because she can't get enough, she coaches both boys and girls volleyball at Corona del Sol. In her free time, she likes to play sand volleyball and games with her friends. Bri is excited to continue teaching young athletes the skills of volleyball and sharing her love of the game with them.

Joaquin Santa Cruz

Joaquin was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has coached with Club One since 2011. He graduated from Westview High School in 2009, a three-year letterman for the school's varsity baseball team, earning All-Region honors in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, Joaquin was a part of Litchfield Park Juniors Boys 18U volleyball team as a setter, and in 2009, he played for Zia Athletic Club as a defensive specialist and outside hitter.

In the Fall of 2017 Joaquin accepted a scholarship to play Men's Volleyball at Ottawa University in Surprise, AZ. As the Spirit's Libero, he earned All-Tournament honors during his first season and looks forward to competing again this Spring. In conjuction with playing on the Men's squad at Ottawa, Joaquin is studying Business Leadership and Management there.

During his free time, Joaquin enjoys spending time with his friends, family, and his dog, Oakley. He is excited to be part of the Club One family and loves sharing his knowledge of volleyball with Arizona's up-and-coming athletes!

Shannon McMillian

Shannon is a volleyball dad who couldn't be kept out of the gym. After watching his daughter Kayla play for so many years, he couldn't wait to share his passion for the game with others.

Shannon returns to Club One for his 6th season as the 17/18 Blue Head Coach. What he enjoys most about coaching is seeing the smile on an athlete's face when they achieve something they never thought was possible. “I firmly believe an athlete should be challenged and pushed beyond their current abilities with the understanding that failure is a necessary tool for learning and growth.” Beyond developing sound skills and a strategic understanding of the sport, Shannon focuses on building a team culture grounded in strong principles and philosophies. At the base of that culture is an understanding that trust is something we EARN through our ACTIONS and devotion to others.

We are thrilled with the passion and attention to detail the Shannon brings to his teams and look forward to having him back!

Shelly Johnson

Shelly is really looking forward to sharing her love for the sport again this season. Her motto: “Let's build great volleyball players and have a blast doing so!!”

Shelly Johnson comes to us with coaching experience spanning almost two decades at many different levels. Most recently, she was the head volleyball coach at Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden, Colorado (2002-2007). While there, she led the team to their best season in school history and earned their first berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Her success throughout her stint was largely due to key impact players, tallying six All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selections, two All-Region team players, and two members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. While in Colorado, she coached for the nationally known club - Juggernaut Volleyball Club. Prior to CSM, Shelly spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Wayne State College (NE). Her main responsibilities were recruitment of high school and junior college athletes, along with assisting with all on-court duties. Shelly has served as Club Director and coach at USAV Pick Six Volleyball Club, head coach at Carl Sandburg College, in Galesburg, IL, and assistant coach at Galesburg High School.

As a player for the Wayne State Wildcats, Shelly was an NAIA All-American in 1990. A four year letter winner and currently still holds eight Wildcat records. Her 1990 team was recently inducted into the Wildcat Hall of Fame. While playing she earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management and earned her Master’s of Science in Education while coaching. Chandler, AZ is the place she calls home with her husband, Brian, and two young children, Owen and Ainsley.

Class of 2015/16

Special shout-out to Ryan Iskandar for pursuing the opportunity to play college ball at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee this next year. We are excited to see him take on the challenge at the next level!

Class of 2014/15

We want to recognize Noah Cotterman for accepting a position at Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin. We are sure he will have to update his wardrobe, but are excited for his opportinity to continue to play volleyball!

Playing volleyball after graduating from High School is a reality for more and more athletes if that is their desire. Club One is committed to providing opportunities for players to receive the exposure they need to take advantage of those opportunities. Each year we help every athlete pursue their desire to play at a level that is best for them. See them in our Alumni section above.

If playing in college is part of an athletes goals, it is important for player and parents to understand that there are steps that must be taken by the student-athlete in order to get the recruiting process started. That’s why we put together a reference document and “to do” list to help you understand how to get the ball rolling (see the Recruiting Checklist and the College-Bound Student-Athlete Guide at our Documents page).

What will Club One do for the student athlete? Club One will come alongside athletes and families who have expressed an interest in playing in college in a variety of ways:

  • The Club One Recruiting Checklist in our Documents section was designed to walk you through the entire process and includes a simple checklist to follow.

  • We have strategically placed coaches on our high school level teams who are well connected and well equipped to guide athletes through the decision process (Kelsey Girts, Shelly Johnson, James White, Geoff Horewitch, and Jackie Bunker - our lead recruiting liason).

  • As club directors, we have worked through the process with all three of our daughters (Division I at University of Denver, Division III at LeTourneau University and Divsion I at University of San Franscisco) and are available for consulting with those desiring additional direction.

Communication between the Club, Coaches, Athletes and Families is key and Club One is ready to partner with you to meet your goals.
