Club One Boys COACHES

Below is some of our coaching staff that will be working with our boys. Please take a minute to get to know them - what drives them to coach this awesome game of volleyball, as well as what they enjoy outside of the gym :o)  We are fortunate to have such a diverse and dedicated group of people on the Club One staff!

Bri Keller-Galley

Bri is a native to Arizona and is studying in Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. She grew up in a volleyball family, staring to play herself at age 8, and fell in love with the sport. Bri began playing at Club One during our inagural season in 2010 and started coaching with us the following year as well.

Bri is one or our One Beach coaches and helps run our Sand tournaments. This year, she started coaching in the boys program and is an assistant on the 16 Platinum team. In her free time, she likes to play sand volleyball. Bri is excited to continue teaching young athletes the skills of volleyball and sharing her love of the game with them. This will be Bri's 4th year on the Club One coaching staff.

David Girts

David is a New York native who moved into the Phoenix area after completing his degree in Sports Management at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. David played two years of collegiate volleyball at Medaille College where his team broke into the top four of NCAA Division III rankings during his senior season. Prior to attending Medaille College, David was the acting student assistant for the New Mexico State's volleyball program. Growing up, David played basketball, volleyball and soccer, but volleyball has won his attention. During the day, David works in the mortgage industry, but on the weekends you can find him playing sand volleyball or spending time with his wife Kelsey and their two dogs. We are extremely excited about the experience and passion he brings to Club One.

James "Jimmy" White Jr

Jimmy joins Club One this year after a recent move to Arizona from Illinois. As a 2010 grad from Southern Illinois University, and a soon to be MS in Sports Administration from SIU, he built up a notable foundation in volleyball coaching while he pursued his undergraduate and graduate studies. Jimmy served as the Student Assistant for the Southern Illinois University Volleyball Team from 2007-2011; Head Volleyball Coach for several Juniors age groups with the Southern Illinois Select VBC from 2008-2013; Junior Varsity Head Coach/Varsity Assistant at Murphysboro High School; and finished out his tenure in Illinois as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at John A Logan College from 2011 until his move to Arizona.

While attending SIU, Jimmy was an assistant for the women's program, coached and played on the men's SIU team, and coached a girls JO team - a testament for his love of the game. He comes with great commendations from his past affiliates in Illinois – whether professors or mentor coaches, as SIU Head Coach, Julie Yankus, expresses:

"James was a pleasure to work with, brought energy and excitement to the gym every day, and was willing to do whatever he could to help the program. He has always been professional with the athletes, parents, and staff members. I'm sure he will impress his players and their families very quickly!"

Jimmy is married and has two precious 1yr old twin daughters! We are very excited to welcome him to the Club One coaching staff!

Justin Marshall

Justin is a native Arizonan who has taken every opportunity to enjoy the year-round sunshine and be involved in sports. His love for sports started with baseball when he was 4-years old. He played many years of Little League Baseball and was recruited to a Club Baseball team that won a National Championship and 2 State Championships. While in junior high, he discovered volleyball and it has been his passion ever since. He was a three-year Varsity player at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, playing defensive specialist for 2 years and changing positions to be the starting setter his senior year. He was selected to the first team all-region and was awarded honorable mention all-state his senior year. After high school he has focused his attention on the sand game and earned his AAA sand rating in Arizona. Justin is currently an Assistant Coach at Sandra Day O'connor High School.

When he isn't playing volleyball or coaching, he is studying secondary education with an emphasis in the sciences at Glendale Community College. Shelly Johnson

Shelly is really looking forward to sharing her love for the sport again this season. Her motto: “Let's build great volleyball players and have a blast doing so!!”

Shelly Johnson comes to us with coaching experience spanning almost two decades at many different levels. Most recently, she was the head volleyball coach at Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden, Colorado (2002-2007). While there, she led the team to their best season in school history and earned their first berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Her success throughout her stint was largely due to key impact players, tallying six All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selections, two All-Region team players, and two members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. While in Colorado, she coached for the nationally known club - Juggernaut Volleyball Club. Prior to CSM, Shelly spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Wayne State College (NE). Her main responsibilities were recruitment of high school and junior college athletes, along with assisting with all on-court duties. Shelly has served as Club Director and coach at USAV Pick Six Volleyball Club, head coach at Carl Sandburg College, in Galesburg, IL, and assistant coach at Galesburg High School.

As a player for the Wayne State Wildcats, Shelly was an NAIA All-American in 1990. A four year letter winner and currently still holds eight Wildcat records. Her 1990 team was recently inducted into the Wildcat Hall of Fame. While playing she earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management and earned her Master’s of Science in Education while coaching. Chandler, AZ is the place she calls home with her husband, Brian, and two young children, Owen and Ainsley.

Class of 2014/15

COLLEGE RECRUITING

Playing volleyball after graduating from High School is a reality for more and more athletes if that is their desire. Club One is committed to providing opportunities for players to receive the exposure they need to take advantage of those opportunities. Each year we help every athlete pursue their desire to play at a level that is best for them. See them in our Alumni section above.

If playing in college is part of an athletes goals, it is important for player and parents to understand that there are steps that must be taken by the student-athlete in order to get the recruiting process started. That’s why we put together a reference document and “to do” list to help you understand how to get the ball rolling (see the Recruiting Checklist and the College-Bound Student-Athlete Guide at our Documents page).

What will Club One do for the student athlete? Club One will come alongside athletes and families who have expressed an interest in playing in college in a variety of ways:

  • The Club One Recruiting Checklist in our Documents section was designed to walk you through the entire process and includes a simple checklist to follow.

  • We have strategically placed coaches on our high school level teams who are well connected and well equipped to guide athletes through the decision process (Kelsey Girts, Mike Daniel, Shelly Johnson, James White, Geoff Horewitch, and Jackie Bunker - our lead recruiting liason).

  • As club directors, we have worked through the process with all three of our daughters (Division I at University of Denver, Division III at LeTourneau University and Divsion I at Arizona State University) and are available for consulting with those desiring additional direction.

Communication between the Club, Coaches, Athletes and Families is key and Club One is ready to partner with you to meet your goals.
